In some areas of the US, the concept of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) is new to the general public and concrete contractors alike. Quite simply, ICFs are stiff, hollow foam forms that fit together like a puzzle to create basement and exterior walls. Once they are fitted together, concrete is poured into the foam forms. Although there are still contractors who know nothing of them, ICFs hold many benefits over the use of standard poured concrete, or masonry block basement walls. As you will see throughout this site, ICFs are used for full walls from foundation to the roof. Other systems often integrated are SIPS for the roof, radiant floor heating, and the use of light weight steel beams for unique designs.
